Help for partners
Many placements are uncomplicated and PSTs meet the expectations of their stage of teaching with support and coaching from their supervising teacher. However, there may be times when PSTs and supervising teachers require assistance from the University via the Additional Support Process.
If you are a supervising teacher or SPC and are concerned about the PST’s progress or approach while on professional experience, it is important to notify us so that additional support can be provided as soon as possible during the professional experience.
How to request additional support
To start this process, complete the Additional Support for the Pre-Service Teacher form [PDF 131KB] and email it to Placement Partnering and Operations at education.placements@latrobe.edu.au with the subject line ‘Attention: Additional Support Request.’
Alternatively, supervising teachers and SPCs can also call Placement Partnering and Operations on (03) 9479 5904.
If the professional experience is still in progress at the point of receiving the additional support advice, we will contact the setting as soon as possible so that appropriate support can be arranged.
The supervising teacher should identify concerns and outline the actions that need to be taken by the PST in the professional experience. The Midpoint Report [PDF 185KB] should be completed as part of this process.
Next steps
A La Trobe University Academic Practice Advisor will contact the supervising teacher and/or SPC to discuss the concerns and identify a development plan for the PST. The PST’s failure to take any suggested action may lead to an unsatisfactory grade.
